The Write Stuff vol. 7

Waltmania

Dangerous flirts
so lovesick
they loiter all day
around the hospital
to catch a glimpse of him.

One of them follows him
around with a chair
in case he gets tired.

He calls them his sweet
Rebel Sympathisers.

At his request
they bring fresh oranges
and handkerchiefs
for the soldiers
and they smile past
the bullet holes
and puffed limbs
to hear his voice
his words
like electric streams
and oh, to fly into
the blue of his eyes.
