The Write Stuff vol. 7

SUNSKETCH

If I were an artist
I would make a sketch
of the view from my window.
Composition would be in thirds,
river, hills and sky on the horizon line.

I'd put it on a litho stone
and do a run of 365
plus an artist's proof.
I'd use the finest paper made
and buy watercolours in large supply.

When the prints are dry
I'd take one print each day
and like a child at play
fill in that dawn's colour display.

If you were to wake when I do
you'd see that Dawn is never the same
and her colour range
is in constant change.

I'm not one to get down on my knees to pray
for God's endless gifts to me
but when it comes to art
you can clearly see
that our prayers
are said in another way.
