The Write Stuff vol. 7

BEING THE WOMAN I AM

If I were to live
by others' vision of me,
I'd not get our of bed each day,
for people who know better
might stamp me with a scarlet letter,
or have a lot to say
about the cut of my hair,
the clothes I wear,
or how my eyes cast a shadow
or if I do too much singing…

here let me digress,
when rocks they throw
I won't curl up and die
nor one tear cry
or show any signs of distress ...

but to return to my singing,
they may hate my mezzo voice
and think I'm too loud
when I sing "Rejoice Rejoice".

I have no other choice
but to be the woman I am.
