Megan Schaffner has had poems and short stories published in several literary journals including Westerly, Fine Line and Social Alternatives.

Megan majored in English and Psychology at the University of Tasmania and has had a varied career in librarianship, teaching (speech and drama) drama (Repertory and Shakespearian theatre); she taught speech, drama and movement at the Teachers College, Hobart and later was a drama adviser in the Tasmanian Education Department. She is one of four women whose poems and articles are collected in Grim Works (2000). She As well as writing she enjoys editing and proofreading the work of writer friends. She lives with a magnificent view of the Derwent seen through peppermint gums, and says she must turns her back on it to get any work done.

Hobart poetry groups

In retirement, Megan Schaffner runs poetry groups that meet to enjoy poetry across a range of countries and centuries – her article about these poetry groups, Kindling Sparks: Poetry in Hobart, is due for publication in a 2003 issue of the Poets' Union magazine, Five Bells focusing on poetry in Tasmania.
