The Write Stuff vol. 7

DREAMMASTER

the dreammaster
    is a point in silence,
a silence that spills endlessly
to the rim of the world.

white dots and strikes
    bubble in the cabbage brain.
they frame the mad architecture
    of the cabbage brain.

an urgent song in the dark.
    eyes swivel in.
eyes pass through eyes to bone
    cluttering eyes.

the air holds a question without answer.
    it beats on the wind
flailing the turbid air.
the dreammaster slips from the prisonhouse.

the dreammaster steps through
    to the guessed-at world.
we guess a whirling, hooping world
    we hope never to see.

sing the fear of the coming year.
    the white eyeshut dark
crawling with sinuous equine
    meaning.

a stone clock in a black wind.
footsteps strike in the empty night.
a guttering flame in a gripping mist.
a red drop in an icebound street.

a stone clock in a cage of bone.
    footsteps in the crawling night.
an avalanche of diamond light.
never come back, never come back...
