Peter Macrow

Peter Macrow is a former tutor and lecturer in European Literature at the University of Tasmania and for 14 years was a Sound Librarian at the ABC.

He writes haiku and longer poems, book reviews and fiction, and his work has been published not only in Australia but also in New Zealand, Japan, the United States, Canada, Scotland, Belgium, Bulgaria and England.

Since December 2000 when his first published poem appeared in Famous Reporter, Peter has had over 200 poems published, as well as book reviews, an animal alphabet, the first chapter of Goldbec the Mole, an animal fantasy for kidults, and The Golden Ball, a play with verse for children.

He edited 2 issues of Republic Readings, a chapbook series (n. 8, September 2004; n.9, December 2004). Peter Macrow has been invited to be poetry editor of the Melbourne-based print journal, The Other Side, for one issue. He is the founding editor of the poetry chapbook series, Blue Giraffe -- the first issue is due out in June 2005. He is also the founding editor of windfall, a poetry annual to be published by Pardalote Press towards the end of 2006.

Where to find Peter Macrow

trying to be here, a suite of 14 poems of varying lengths by Peter Macrow, was published by Walleah Press in the RePUBlic Readings series n.7, launched on National Poetry Day in Hobart in 2002.

Peter is currently working on a collection of 70 poems with the same sort of format as those presented here in The Write Stuff's '6 X 4'. It's called until then this.

His haiku have been widely published. (See his review of Lyn Reeves' book of haiku, Walking the Tideline.) Peter Macrow is part of the Watersmeet haiku group in Hobart and a member of the Tasmanian Writers Centre.
